State Representative Katie Stuart has represented Illinois’ 112th House District since January 2017. A full-time legislator, she currently serves as Assistant Majority Leader and Floor Whip in the Illinois House of Representatives and as Chair of the House Higher Education Committee.
Before joining the General Assembly, Stuart spent much of her career in education. She earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Rutgers University and a master’s degree in mathematics from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She went on to teach mathematics at the elementary and high school levels in Edwardsville and Highland before becoming a college mathematics instructor at SIUE.
Her experience as an educator has remained an important part of her work in Springfield, particularly on issues involving public education and higher education. As both an SIUE graduate and former instructor, Stuart has maintained strong ties to the university and the Metro East community throughout her time in office.
