State Representative Katie Stuart’s district office offers paid internship opportunities for college students and recent graduates interested in public service, government, and community engagement. District interns gain firsthand experience with the day-to-day work of a legislative office by attending community events and local meetings, conducting legislative and policy research, supporting office projects, helping write our newsletter, and answering calls. Interns may also represent the office at events throughout the 112th District and work directly with staff to help connect residents with state services.
Interns will develop practical skills in professional communication, research, problem-solving, organization, and public engagement while learning how state government operates at the community level. The experience can be especially valuable for students considering careers in government, law, public administration, policy, advocacy, or nonprofit work. It can also strengthen graduate-school applications by demonstrating a commitment to public service and providing relevant professional experience, potential references, and a clearer understanding of future academic and career goals.
Many former interns have gone on to build successful careers in state and federal public service. By working alongside experienced legislative staff and connecting with elected officials, government agencies, and community leaders, interns can begin building a professional network that continues well beyond the semester. Fall 2026 positions pay $15–$17 per hour, offer flexible scheduling around class commitments, and may qualify for college course credit when applicable.
